Collection: J-Runeforms

J-Runeforms began with the design of twenty-four symbolic forms. The narrative and world setting developed afterward, as a way of exploring what these forms might become if they had once existed, disappeared, and later returned.

The visual system combines structural qualities associated with Japanese characters—stroke balance, directional flow, and spatial restraint—with the symbolic character of runes, the proportions of the silver ratio, and geometric construction. The forms are not intended as a historical writing system or a reconstruction of an existing rune tradition.

The surrounding fiction examines how meaning changes when a symbol moves between people, media, and eras. A sacred sign can become corrupted data, an archaeological object, a game icon, a household tool, or something taught again to a child.

At the center of the project is the relationship between memory and records.

What remains when inherited knowledge is interrupted? Can a form preserve something that language and documentation have lost? And when a forgotten symbol returns, is it being restored—or given an entirely new meaning?

J-Runeforms brings its graphic designs, fictional history, and twelve episodes together as different records of the same imagined symbolic system.

This is a work of fiction. The disasters, dates, organizations, technologies, and other elements depicted in it are unrelated to real events.
